  • Xiaomi has launched its first-ever “T” series flagship in India, bringing a balanced mix of flagship-grade features, Leica-tuned cameras, and premium hardware to the affordable flagship segment.
  • The Xiaomi 17T’s standout strengths include its camera experience, particularly portrait photography and 5x optical zoom, alongside a large 6,500mAh battery, 1.5K AMOLED display, and MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset.
  • Aggressive pricing of INR 59,999 (around USD 632) and an assured buyback program further strengthen the proposition, making the Xiaomi 17T one of the most compelling value offerings among recent affordable flagship launches.

Xiaomi 17T launched in India at INR 59,999 (around USD 632)

Xiaomi has launched its affordable flagship, the Xiaomi 17T in India on 4th June 2026. It is the first time Xiaomi has launched its flagship “T” variant in the country. It can be viewed as the younger sibling of the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, sharing the same DNA, albeit with relatively lower specifications while still delivering flagship-grade capabilities. Several competing brands have recently launched devices in the affordable premium segment, but Xiaomi appears to have nailed the pricing. In our view, the device is more of a pricing masterstroke than a product breakthrough.

Key USP and other key specifications along with our thoughts

The key USP of the device is its camera capabilities. The camera system is not merely Leica-branded; Xiaomi and Leica have jointly worked on the optics. Having used the device, we particularly appreciated the cleanliness of the portrait shots. We also liked the Leica Black and White High Contrast filter, which adds a distinctive character to images. Below are some of the samples.

In terms of hardware, the device features a 50MP + 50MP + 12MP rear camera setup along with a 32MP front camera. Overall, camera performance is strong, with the standout feature being the 5x optical zoom capability. That said, we believe the choice of ultrawide sensor could have been better.

Beyond the camera, the Xiaomi 17T packs a 6,500mAh battery with 67W fast charging support, 22.5W reversed wired charging, a 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED display, and the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset. The device is available in two memory configurations: 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB. Detailed specs can be read here on official Xiaomi website.

Overall, the device appears well-balanced. A better ultrawide sensor, presence of wireless charging and stronger communication around security would have further strengthened the proposition.

Xiaomi 17T is a pricing genius

The Xiaomi 17T has been launched at INR 59,999 (around USD 632) for the 256GB variant and INR 64,999 (around USD 685) for the 512GB variant. We believe this pricing makes it one of the most attractive propositions among recent launches in this category, especially at a time when the industry is witnessing price increases across segments amid memory shortages and rising component costs. What’s even better is that Xiaomi provides an assured buyback option of up to 60% of the MRP if one upgrades within the first year. This helps in two ways. One, the resale value of the device becomes stronger, and two, it helps Xiaomi lower the replacement cycle, thus fast-tracking the replacement rate.

For comparison, rival offerings such as the Oppo Find X9s and Vivo X300 FE are priced at INR 79,999 (around USD 843). Against these competitors, Xiaomi clearly stands out on value. We would not necessarily say that the Xiaomi 17T is the best device among the three, as both Oppo and Vivo offer stronger specifications in certain areas. However, the value proposition, which ultimately matters the most to consumers, is arguably the strongest in Xiaomi’s favor at INR 59,999. As a result, we expect the Xiaomi 17T to generate the highest shipment volumes among these three models but would continue to struggle competing with n-1 iPhone regular models given its established aspirational value. Same goes for Samsung Galaxy S series n-1 models. OnePlus 15 would also give a mild competition.

SAG Analysis

As per SAG Smartphone 360, Xiaomi declined 5% YoY and captured the fourth spot in India smartphone market in Q1 2026 with 11.5% market share. The decline was primarily driven by tightening component supply and memory-led cost inflation during the quarter. Under a more normalized supply environment, Xiaomi would likely have delivered annual growth, supported by fresh launches across the Redmi Note series, Xiaomi 17 series, and POCO M and X8 series. Unlike several other Chinese vendors that accelerated aggressive channel loading, SAG believes Xiaomi took a comparatively more disciplined approach in Q1 by prioritizing channel inventory management and streamlining its product portfolio. This strategy limited near-term sell-in upside, but should help Xiaomi maintain healthier inventory conditions and better shipment stability in the coming quarters.

For Xiaomi’s performance as a whole, SAG still maintains its broader cautious outlook on Xiaomi and continues to project a double-digit decline in the company’s smartphone shipments in the Indian smartphone market in 2026.

Final Verdict

As a final verdict on the Xiaomi 17T, we believe it is the best value proposition in the affordable flagship segment at INR 59,999. Xiaomi understood the market sentiment and smartly planned the specs of the device, which look quite balanced with some cons, while at the same time managing the pricing very efficiently, unlike other Chinese vendors with their respective affordable flagship launches. It should not just generate mindshare but also volumes, though they will still be relatively small. The buyback option is the cherry on the cake.
