SAG: Find X9 Ultra and X9s Could Improve Oppo’s Premium Image in India, But Aspirational Gap Still Remains

Author: Abhilash Kumar

SAG tracked OPPO smartphone shipment grew double digit in India in Q1 2026 driven by solid performance in the entry mid segment powered by K and A series. The proportion of Find series remains low but we see two promising launches from the vendor in the Find series. OPPO has launched two new flagship smartphones in India, the Oppo Find X9 Ultra and Oppo Find X9s. The Ultra is the ultimate flagship priced at INR 1,69,999 (roughly US$ 1776) whereas Find X9s is more of a trimmed down flagship priced at INR 79,999 (roughly US$ 836).

Oppo Find X9 Ultra: Hardware Without Compromise

Camera

The Oppo Find X9 Ultra features a 200MP main sensor, 200MP periscope lens, 50MP ultrawide sensor, and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera setup. It is a camera beast and arguably the best camera setup on any smartphone currently available. The collaboration with Hasselblad further enhances the colour science. It also features a 50MP selfie camera.

Battery

The smartphone packs a huge 7050mAh battery powered by Silicon Carbon battery technology. It makes complete sense for a smartphone which is so camera heavy to feature such a high battery capacity.

Display

The Oppo Find X9 Ultra sports a 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED 144Hz display with Dolby Vision and Ultra HDR image support. It has protection of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The display specifications are flagship-level without compromises.

Processor

Powering the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, one of the most powerful processors available right now.

Software

The smartphone runs ColorOS 16 based on Android 16 alongside five major software upgrades. ColorOS enjoys a strong reputation especially when compared to Android skins of other Chinese vendors.

The specifications of the smartphone are truly ultra-flagship level. We believe Oppo could have communicated a little more around the security aspect of the device. Secondly, on the design front, the device looks premium but misses a distinct signature identity. For example, an iPhone 17 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra or Google Pixel 10 Pro has a signature design language and is easily recognizable from a distance, but all three Chinese Ultra smartphones still look somewhat similar from the rear. Oppo has attempted a hexagonal camera design but overall it still resembles a circular camera module layout. These are among the few drawbacks we could identify as of now while we are yet to test the device extensively.

On the pricing front, the device is priced north of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and iPhone 17 Pro which makes it less attractive for mainstream premium users as Oppo still does not enjoy the aspirational value of the US and Korean giants. A niche audience focused on photography and videography would still choose it.

As per SAG estimates, in the “More than INR 1 Lakh” segment (roughly >US$1050), Samsung and Apple contribute to more than 90% while Chinese brands continue to have very limited presence.

Oppo Find X9s: The More Practical Flagship

The little sibling of the Oppo Find X9 Ultra, X9 Pro and X9 is the Oppo Find X9s.

Camera

The device features a 50MP + 50MP + 50MP camera setup. It is one of the strongest camera setups in the price segment. Normally OEMs compromise on one of the sensors but Oppo has managed to keep all three at 50MP.

Processor

The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500s chipset. It is not the ultimate flagship processor but still one of the most powerful chipsets from MediaTek capable of handling most tasks comfortably.

Display

The Find X9s features a 6.59-inch AMOLED 120Hz display with Dolby Vision support. It has Gorilla Glass 7i protection.

Battery

The smartphone packs a 7025mAh Silicon Carbon battery. Very impressive considering it has just 25mAh less than the Ultra despite being a compact flagship.

Software

The device ships with ColorOS 16 alongside five major Android upgrades as well as six years of security updates.

The design of the Find X9s has a signature of its own unlike the Ultra and this is a major positive. The only concern similar to the Ultra is that Oppo could have highlighted security capabilities more aggressively.

On the pricing front, the device is priced roughly INR 3,000 less than the iPhone 17 and INR 7,000 less than the Samsung Galaxy S26 which makes it a more attractive proposition. Hence, the performance of the device could be better than the Ultra and a niche audience may switch from Samsung and Apple to it. We still believe the numbers will remain relatively small as Oppo’s aspirational value remains lower than the global premium giants.

As per SAG smartphone 360, Oppo grew double digit year-over-year in Q1 2026 driven by strong performance in the entry mid segment powered by K and A series. This was particularly impressive at a time when the market continues to face a memory crisis. The contribution of flagship smartphones remains low but is growing on a small base. We believe the Oppo Find X9 series will take things to another level in terms of brand perception and flagship visibility, though the absolute shipment volume will still remain limited especially when we forecast the vendor to decline in double digits yearover-year in Q2 2026. However, the mindshare capture could be significant.
