Alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Duo, and AirPods 5 launches, Apple also launched the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. The new watches build on Apple’s established smartwatch proposition, with improvements spanning audio intelligence, health tracking, battery life, charging, and sensors.

Audio Intelligence Helps Users Stay More Present
Quite often, users may overlook or fail to hear something important while going about their daily activities. Apple Watch aims to address this through audio intelligence, helping users stay alert to important sounds and remain more engaged with their surroundings.
One example is Sound Recognition, which can alert users who are deaf or hard of hearing to important sounds even when their iPhone is not with them. The feature can recognize sounds such as sirens, alarms, and doorbells.
Another notable feature is Live Rewind, which can help users recall what was said during a conversation. By double-pressing the crown, users can access the previous 15 seconds of a conversation in the form of a text snippet, allowing them to catch something they may have missed. Users can also ask Siri about the context, content, or text.
Apple has also introduced Siri Recap, which can generate high-level summaries that users can review later. When enabled, Siri Recap automatically generates a structured summary with a title and key points in the Siri app on the iPhone.
Meanwhile, Shazam can instantly detect music around the user and identify the song and artist, further expanding the Apple Watch’s ability to interact with ambient audio.

Another important addition is Readiness, which allows users to analyze recent activity, vitals, training, and sleep scores. The feature is designed to help users determine how to approach their day based on the insights generated from their recent health and activity data.
Apple has also upgraded the sensors on the watches, while improvements to step tracking further strengthen the everyday health and fitness proposition.
The redesigned pedometer model, together with the S11 chip, enables the new steps complication to provide real-time step tracking.
Battery Life and Fast Charging Address a Key Smartwatch Limitation
Battery life remains one of the key challenges for full-fledged smartwatches running sophisticated operating systems.
The Apple Watch Series 12 continues to offer up to 24 hours of battery life, while outdoor workouts can deliver up to 10 hours of battery life. Fast charging has also been improved, with 15 minutes of charging providing up to 12 hours of additional battery life—around 50% more than Apple Watch Series 11.
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 takes battery performance further, offering up to 50 hours of battery life, or more than two days under the stated usage conditions. In Low Power Mode, battery life can extend to up to 84 hours.

Smart Analytics Global (SAG) Analyst Take: Fast Charging Is Increasingly Important
From a Smart Analytics Global perspective, fast charging is particularly important because battery consumption is one of the inherent disadvantages of true smartwatches.
Unlike basic watches or non-display fitness bands, which can often operate for eight to ten days or longer, true smartwatches have to power a display, sensors, connectivity, and a relatively sophisticated operating system. As a result, battery life of one or two days can be understandable given the complexity of the platform.
In this context, fast charging becomes an important way of mitigating the battery-life disadvantage.
If users can obtain up to 18 hours of additional battery life from only 15 minutes of charging, the friction associated with charging the watch can be significantly reduced. We therefore view Apple’s charging improvements as one of the more meaningful practical enhancements in the new generation.
Ultra 4 Strengthens Apple’s Premium Positioning
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 is positioned as a more premium and rugged alternative to the Series 12. Its longer battery life, rugged build and design, and incremental feature upgrades are likely to appeal to a specific segment of users who prioritize durability, outdoor activities, and extended battery life.
However, we believe the significant price difference between the Series 12 and Ultra 4 will limit the latter’s addressable market.
We therefore believe Apple Watch Ultra 4 to remain a niche product rather than a major volume driver for Apple. Its role is more likely to be strengthening Apple’s premium smartwatch positioning than materially changing overall Apple Watch shipment volumes.
SAG Analyst Take: Series 12 to Remain the Volume Driver
From SAG perspective, the pricing of the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 is broadly in line with the pricing of their predecessors at starting price of US$ 399 and US$ 799 respectively. Consequently, our forecast remains valid following Apple’s latest launch.
We forecast Apple Watch to grow 2% in Q3 2026 and for full-year 2026. It will also continue to lead the global true smartwatch market in 2026 and 2027. For the global wrist wearable category which includes true smartwatch, basic smartwatch and bands as well as non-display bands, Apple is forecasted to capture 20% market share in Q3 2026 leading the market. However, for the full year 2026, Huawei will be ahead of Apple with 19% market share and Apple will sit at 18%. This is driven by Huawei’s presence in both true and basic smartwatch category.
More broadly, SAG is aligned with Apple’s strategy across the wearable portfolio. We believe Apple will continue to lead the true smartwatch segment in Q3 and Q4 2026, driven primarily by the Apple Watch Series 12 and continued sales of the Series 11 in emerging markets.
The Series 12 is likely to remain the key volume driver, while the Ultra 4 should primarily serve the premium niche.
