Author: Abhilash Kumar

Sennheiser launched its flagship TWS, the Momentum 5 TWS, on September 23, 2026. We have been using the device for the past couple of days to evaluate the experience from a regular user’s perspective.

This is not a technical review. Instead, we look at how the Momentum 5 TWS performs in everyday usage, covering its key strengths as well as areas where we believe there is room for improvement. We also look at the product in the context of the broader changes taking place in the TWS market.

The Traditional TWS Market Is Changing

Before getting into the product itself, it is important to understand what is happening in the traditional TWS market.

We at Smart Analytics Global (SAG) are witnessing that traditional TWS: wireless earbuds that go inside the ear canals, declined in the mid-single digits in Q2 2026.

This decline is being offset by growth in open-ear TWS designs. Among open-ear TWS products, open clip is currently driving most of the growth. Open hook had grown over the past couple of quarters, but it has now also started facing a decline, resulting in share shifting toward open-clip TWS.

Sennheiser, a German brand in audio since 80 years, primarily in traditional TWS segment is also seeing pressure. The company’s traditional TWS shipment volume declined 5% in Q2 2026 and ranked 20th for the quarter.

We forecast Sennheiser’s traditional TWS shipments to decline for the full year 2026 in terms of volume.

Our Experience With the Sennheiser Momentum 5 TWS

Pros of the Sennheiser Momentum 5 TWS

1. Premium-Looking Design

The Momentum 5 TWS has a premium-looking design.

The charging case has a distinctive finish, while the earbuds feature a prominent speaker-like design that differentiates them from many conventional TWS products.

We used the cream variant, which has a relatively distinctive appearance and a premium-looking finish.

However, the larger size of the earbuds also has some implications for usability, which we discuss in the cons section below.

2. Strong Sound Quality

Sound quality is one of the stronger aspects of the Momentum 5 TWS in our usage.

The earbuds deliver a detailed audio experience, and we noticed certain elements in songs that were less prominent on some of the other TWS products we have used.

This continues the audio-focused positioning associated with Sennheiser’s Momentum series and remains one of the key differentiating aspects of the Momentum 5 TWS.

3. Effective ANC

ANC performance was effective in reducing ambient noise during our usage.

It does not completely eliminate external sounds, but the level of noise reduction is significant, particularly when listening to music.

Even without playing music, activating ANC noticeably reduces surrounding noise.

4. Good Battery Experience

Battery life has also been a positive aspect of our experience with the Momentum 5 TWS.

During our usage, we did not encounter any significant battery-related issues. We have charged the earbuds intermittently and have not experienced any noticeable battery concerns so far.

For users who frequently use TWS throughout the day, battery performance is an important part of the overall experience.

Cons of the Sennheiser Momentum 5 TWS

There are also some areas where we believe the product could be improved.

1. Relatively Large Design

While the design has a premium appearance, the size of the earbuds is noticeable.

When placed alongside products such as the Apple AirPods 5, the Momentum 5 TWS looks considerably larger.

The larger form factor could partly be related to the hardware inside the earbuds, including the speakers and microphones used for audio and noise cancellation. However, it also makes the product look and feel bulkier compared with some competing TWS models.

2. Latency and Lip-Sync Issue

The second issue we experienced was latency.

While watching a series or a YouTube video, we occasionally experienced a lip-sync issue between the audio and video.

This is an area that could potentially be addressed through a software update or OTA update.

At a price of around INR 29,990, consistent video synchronization is an important part of the experience, particularly for users who frequently consume video content through their TWS.

Overall Experience

Overall, our experience with the Sennheiser Momentum 5 TWS has been positive in several core areas.

Sound quality, ANC and battery life are the key strengths we observed during our usage. At the same time, the relatively large form factor, occasional lip-sync issue are areas that could be improved.

The product also highlights the changing dynamics of the broader TWS market.

Traditional TWS volumes are facing pressure as consumers increasingly explore open-ear formats, particularly open-clip products. At the same time, premium traditional TWS products can continue to generate revenue growth through higher ASPs and premium positioning.

The Momentum 5 TWS represents this premium positioning at a time when the broader traditional TWS category is undergoing a shift toward newer open-ear form factors.
