Author: Abhilash Kumar
  • Nothing has expanded its smartphone portfolio with the launch of the Phone 4b, introducing the company’s first b-series smartphone.
  • Smart Analytics Global (SAG) tracks Nothing as one of the fastest-growing smartphone brands in both India and the global market, with the b-series expected to support its growth momentum in the coming quarters.
  • The b-series creates a clearer product hierarchy, complementing the premium Number series and the mid-range a-series while addressing a more affordable price segment.
  • The Phone 4b launches across multiple global markets but will not be available in North America, where Nothing is continuing to expand its retail presence and is expected to pursue partnerships with major U.S. carriers in the future.

Nothing Expands Its Portfolio with the First b-Series Smartphone

Nothing has officially launched the Nothing Phone 4b on July 7, 2026, marking the debut of its b-series smartphone lineup. Looking at the company’s product roadmap over the past few years, a clear expansion strategy is emerging. Nothing started with the Number series in 2022, introduced the more affordable a-series in 2024, and has now expanded its portfolio with the b-series in 2026. If this two-year cadence continues, it would not be surprising to see another new series introduced around 2028.

According to Smart Analytics Global (SAG), Nothing has been one of the fastest-growing smartphone brands in both India and the global smartphone market over the past few years. As the company continues to expand its product portfolio, the introduction of the Phone 4b is believed to help sustain this strong momentum by addressing a broader consumer base and strengthening its position across additional price segments in the coming quarters, especially is price sensitive markets.

The launch of the b-series is more than just another smartphone release, it reflects Nothing’s broader strategy of expanding its addressable market while maintaining a structured product portfolio.

Exhibit 1: Nothing Smartphone Launch Timeline

A Well-Defined Portfolio Strategy

The positioning of each series is now becoming increasingly clear. The Number series continues to represent Nothing’s premium smartphone lineup, while the a-series strikes a balance between features and affordability. The newly introduced b-series sits below both, targeting the most affordable tier within the Nothing ecosystem.

This positioning appears highly intentional, particularly in today’s economic environment where rising memory prices continue to increase smartphone component costs. Rather than stretching its existing lineups across a wider pricing range, Nothing has chosen to introduce a dedicated series that can cater to a new price segment without diluting the identity of its other products.

Why CMF Skipped a Smartphone Launch in 2026?

Another interesting aspect of this strategy is CMF by Nothing’s decision not to launch a smartphone in 2026.

Instead of pushing CMF into a higher price bracket, Nothing has expanded its own smartphone portfolio by introducing the b-series. This approach allows the company to maintain a clear distinction between its two brands. CMF can continue focusing on the affordable smartphone segment, while Nothing strengthens its presence across the premium and upper mid-range categories.

The approximately INR 5,000 price gap between the Phone 4a and the Phone 4b further reinforces this segmentation. It creates sufficient differentiation between the two product lines while keeping them close enough to address adjacent consumer segments.

Familiar Design, Balanced Hardware

From a design perspective, the Phone 4b continues Nothing’s signature visual identity with the Glyph Matrix and the familiar transparent-inspired design language that has become synonymous with the brand. Some of the other key specifications include a 6.77-inch Super AMOLED display, a 50MP primary camera paired with an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 16MP front-facing camera. The device packs a 6,000mAh battery in the Indian variant and a 5,200mAh battery in the international variant.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 is a capable platform. However, at a price point of around INR 35,000, some consumers may feel Nothing could have opted for a more powerful chipset to further strengthen its value proposition against competing devices in the segment.

India Remains at the Center of Nothing’s Strategy

India continues to be Nothing’s most important market, making a smartphone targeted at the INR 30,000–35,000 (USD316 to USD369) segment a logical strategic move. The country has played a pivotal role in Nothing’s growth, both in terms of consumer adoption and brand building.

Few smartphone brands today are able to generate consumer buzz as effectively as Nothing. Backed by strong investors and Carl Pei’s branding expertise, the company has built a unique identity that extends beyond specifications alone. The Glyph design language remains one of Nothing’s strongest differentiators and continues to reinforce the brand’s premium perception.

A Broader Global Expansion Strategy

While India remains Nothing’s largest and most strategic smartphone market, the Phone 4b also reflects the company’s broader global ambitions. The smartphone has been introduced across multiple international markets, allowing Nothing to further expand its portfolio beyond its traditional premium offerings.

One notable exception is North America, where the Phone 4b will not be available. This comes at an interesting time, as Nothing has recently expanded its retail presence in the United States through its partnership with Best Buy, initially targeting the unlocked smartphone segment. Looking ahead, Smart Analytics Global (SAG) forecasts Nothing to continue strengthening its U.S. presence and eventually pursue partnerships with leading carriers such as T-Mobile from 2027 onwards, enabling the brand to reach a much broader consumer base. We believe that since US is a higher ASP market hence Nothing wants to tap it with pure number series or the “a” at max and not with “b”.

Looking Ahead

The Phone 4B represents more than the launch of a new smartphone. It demonstrates Nothing’s evolving portfolio strategy as the company transitions from a single flagship lineup into a more comprehensive multi-series smartphone ecosystem.

By expanding into a new price tier while maintaining clear differentiation between the Number, “a”, “b”, and CMF series, Nothing is positioning itself to address a wider range of consumers without weakening its brand identity. Combined with its strong momentum in India, growing global presence, and expanding retail partnerships, the b-series has the potential to become another important growth driver for Nothing in the coming quarters and support the company’s long-term expansion strategy.
